Required English skills

Proof of sufficient English language skills

Applicants for the following degree programmes are obliged to prove that they have a sufficient level of English. As a rule there are various options for proving this:

Animation and Game

  • Level B2 (completed) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • A “satisfactory” grade C or higher in English on your most recent certificate
  • Equivalent knowledge

Information Law (Informationsrecht)

  • TOEFL: Minimum score of 57
  • TOEIC: Minimum score of 479
  • telc: English B1/B1 Business certificate or higher
  • Cambridge ESOL: BEC, PET certificate or higher
  • IELTS: Minimum score of 5
  • LCCI: EFB certificate Level 2 or higher
  • UNIcert: Min. level 1

Joint International Master in Computer Science (JIM)

  • TOEFL: Minimum total score of 88, minimum score of 21 in writing
  • IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5 (no subtests with less than 6 points)

Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (MSE)

  • TOEFL: Minimum total score 88
  • IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5 (no subtests with less than 6 points)

Industrial Engineering (M.Sc.)

  • B2 certificate according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • TOEFL: Minimum total score of 80
  • IELTS: Minimum score of 6.0
  • TELC certificate level B2 (for business or technical purposes)
  • Cambridge English: Business Vantage (BEC Vantage) – CEFR Level B2
  • Business Higher (BEC Higher) – CEFR Level C1
  • B2 certificate of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences

Other certificates may be accepted if they are recognised as equivalent.
